"No More Batteries in the Nose"

Straight from the ER we went to Mother's Day lunch in University Village. At least she's smiling here.

We woke up early on Mother's Day. We had plans for breakfast, a nice bike ride on our new bikes and buggy for the kids, and then off to Malakai's football practice and game. The weather was shaping-up nicely. Then, just as I exited the shower, Maliyah approaches, kind of wining and says, "I put a battery in my nose." At first we weren't sure what to think. It didn't seem like something she would do, but I know how common it is...then my mind started-up. "oh no, if there is a battery in her nose and she swallows it that can be very dangerous." She became very fidgety and started crying on and off for about 10 minutes. Malakai came and confirmed that "Maliyah isn't making it up, she's telling the truth." He showed us the necklace that we had brought home from a Cinco de Mayo celebration. It was a "toy" necklace that lit-up. There were two watch-like batteries in t he lid...now there was only one.

We called the on-call pediatrician who met us at Woodinville pediatrics. He was unable to get the "foreign object" with tweezers and Maliyah was hysterical to say the least. He send us to the ER at Children's Hospital in Seattle. There, we were admitted and and in less than an hour they retrieved the battery from Mimi's nose. It took a small tube with a balloon on the end to get it out. The stick the tube in the nose and pass the foreign object. Then they blow up the balloon and pull it out. They had to swaddle Maliyah in a blanket and it took both Terry and I to hold her down and a nurse to hold her head while the Nurse Practicioner retrieved the battery.

Happy Mother's Day! I'm saving this story for her wedding day...
